Our Mission

At Lumina, we embark on a transformative journey of storytelling, where each play and musical becomes a vessel for profound reflection and growth. Guided by our director’s innovative techniques, deeply anchored in a faith-based worldview, we utilize a unique blend of educational and directorial methodologies to cut through the superficiality of standard entertainment, revealing the redemptive power of authentic storytelling.

Our goal is to create a space where every performance is an invitation to journey inward, challenging those on both sides of the curtain to consider life’s deeper questions. By fostering this unique environment, we aspire to enrich our community’s spiritual and cultural life.

REVIEWS

NEVER, Summer 2023

“Meghan Hackett, the director and founder of Lumina Theatre Company, was inspired and took a month with the company to workshop a short piece. The ensemble worked tirelessly and Hackett made it clear that the cast was involved in much of the choreography, blocking, and storytelling… the show uses projections to help create multiple settings; one particularly good example was their use of projections to simulate flight…. The Lost Boys lead the charge in this production. (They) are balls of energy onstage, and their athletic movements and stomping capture the youthful exuberance of the Lost Boy. The ensemble creates a powerful chorus together and provide a strongly performed acapella moment. Mara Andrei plays the part of Wendy. Her movement onstage is reminiscent of the classical Broadway choreography. The stand-out vocalist in the cast, Kathleen Hackett delivers a beautiful vocal accompaniment to Mara’s dance. Rob has some moments of connection with the audience as the most lost of boys – Peter himself.  The cast should be commended on the show

Camelot, Winter 2020

“Mass is wonderful as Arthur.  He has us all humming the title song, “Camelot” after we are on our way home.  He brings out Arthur’s idealism, tolerance and wisdom…Hackett’s Guenevere sings beautifully…Wilson also does a notable performance as the handsome and righteous Lancelot… Meghan Hackett’s direction is creative and compelling… According to the program, Alan J. Lerner once said this his favorite performance of “Camelot” was a rehearsal with no elaborate sets or costumes.  Hackett’s vision keeps this idea in mind… For a most entertaining experience visit “Camelot-Reimagined” at the Howard County Center for the Arts.  You may find yourself transported to a world where love, peace and kindness reign supreme.”

Godspell, Summer 2019

The People Have Spoken!

Audience’s rave over Lumina theatre Company’s  Summer Musical, Godspell

Crucible, Fall 2018

“It’s a witch hunt! Witches, whores, collusion, and corruption, peppered with a bit of witness tampering, threaten the dreams of small-town America in Lumina Theatre Company’s inaugural production of The Crucible. The parallels of this Arthur Miller classic with current events are as obvious as when it was first staged during the McCarthyism era of 1953. Part the curtain of this obvious low-hanging fruit, however, and Lumina’s production offers a distinctly deeper point of view; not as that of observers of history and political events, but as engaged participants, as judge, juror, and sometimes defendant of our own deepest desires and wishes…”

“Working at Lumina Theatre Company has been one of the most fulfilling and challenging experiences of my life and I look forward to doing it for years to come.”

“If Lumina Theater Company had existed as an option for the young aspiring actress that I was 40 years ago, I would have jumped at the opportunity and been ‘all in’. Our culture, our world, our actors, dancers, singers, tech people, directors, choreographers, producers etc… NEED an option for their creative gifts and talents to be used to influence the culture in a  positive, Christ centered way through the Arts. For all the young people out there today who have gifts to offer through the Arts that will bear good fruit in the culture, Lumina Theater Company is a critically important option to have available.”

Working with Lumina Theatre Company was a truly exceptional experience. It’s a wonderfully diverse company, filled with talented and motivated people who are passionate about their art and about telling a story. Whatever they are working on, you can be sure they are putting their hears and souls into it. I’m a fan!

“Our rehearsals were a culmination of collaborative artistry, we all learned so much from each other. I now have memories that inform my performance to this day, and just as many fond recollections that warm my heart because of the loving experience of the entire cast and crew. My experience with Lumina was one I will truly never forget.”

“In working with Lumina, I encountered a group of directors, actors, and dancers who are committed to both their faith and their craft. In a world where people reject a false image of God, we need people who can present the truth of God in its fullness – with beauty, joy, and fresh vitality. Lumina strives to do this in every production it creates.”

Acting in Lumina’s productions has changed my life for the better. Not only do they have a great community, but my fellow castmates and Mrs. Hackett have taught me over the years that my talents can be used for a greater cause; that theatre is not only entertainment but also a portrayal of thought that can be used for God’s glory and the betterment of humanity. I’ll never forget the personal growth and the finding of my gifts that this company gave me.”
